Huge Sterling Silver Enamel Cigar Box Omar Ramsden 1936

⭕ Exceptional and magnificent large sterling silver and enamel cigar box, made by Omar Ramsden and fully hallmarked for 1936.

This is a remarkable large silver cigar box made by the master English silversmith, Omar Ramsden. Whilst pieces by Omar Ramsden are highly sought after and collectable, as Omar Ramsden silver goes, this is a remarkable and exceptional piece.

The silver box has a magnificent large enamel plaque to the lid with a galleon sailing towards another tall ship whose masks and flag can be seen to the background. To the left hand side is a perched kangaroo.

The enamel is mounted in a silver frame with a border of twisted rope.

The box has a wonderful all over spot hammered finish and is inscribed I was wrought for James and Nancy Barnes by command of William and Lily Barnes to commemorate the fortieth anniversay of their wedding day.

The left hand side of the lid is inscribed WB Nov 12 1936 and the right hand side June 1st 1897-1937.

The box opens to reveal its cedar wood lining.

The box is both large and exceptionally heavy. It is 8-1/4 inches / 210 mm wide, 4-1/4 inches / 107 mm deep and it stands 2-3/4 inches / 70 mm high.

The box weighs a remarkably 1,474 grams - so almost one and a half kilos.

The side of the box and the underside bear clear hallmarks - lion passant, London mark, letter A for 1936 and makers mark OR for Omar Ramsden. The underside is also marked Omar Ramsden Me Fecit (Omar Ramsden made me).

The silver and the enamel are in excellent pristine condition with no dents, damage or repair. There are no chips, cracks or damage to the enamel.
