1890s Antique Bicycle Marion Cycle Aetna

⭕ This is a an 1890s Aetna made by the Marion Cycle Co. of Marion, Indiana. They were only produced between 1896 to 1899. I bought this as a barn find in complete, rolling condition. Over 2 years I have had everything restored to AS NEW condition:

The frame was media blasted and painted in Black Enamel and then Gold Pinstripes and Graphics were added by CyclArt [ http://www.cyclart.com/ ] who specialize in painting and restoring frames.

All plated parts were replated in Nickle (as original) by Plating Specialties in Grand Junction, Co. [ http://www.platingspecialties.com/ ] The chain was given a Brass plating with Black brushing to give it a nice patina and the HeadBadge was also given a Brass plating. The original bell was also replated in Nickle and Brass.

The saddle was recovered in Leather to match the original pattern (I still have some of the pieces) by Saddles by Heilman in Austin, Tx. [ http://www.saddles.amintech.com/index.html ] The antique tool pouch was also Re-Stitched by them.

The original Wood Wheels were restored and rebuilt by myself using Custom cut Double Butted Stainless Steel Spokes (as original) from Phil Wood cycles. I stripped the wood by hand and Re-Finished the rims with 3 coats of Marine Varnish. The tires are 28 x 1-1/2 reproductions from Coker Tire.

This is a FIXED GEAR bicycle meaning it has no brakes and does not coast. You stop it like a tricycle, by slowing the pedals. 110 years ago you didnt have to worry about traffic. This bicycle is fully functioning but has never been ridden on the street.
