⭕ This Snare Drum is from the French/Indian War to early American Revolution:
Description: Early American Military Snare Drum. Conserved at the Winterthur Museum whose curatorial services are one of only four reputable programs in this country. It is world by other museums and collectors around the world. This drum has no paint on it or distinguishing marks other than an H-14 in red paint that either came from a museum or a private collector. The head of this drum is in tact as well as the bottom. The snare is also attached on the bottom but is very loose from simple time. Theres the normal scratches and wear from use. The wood of this drum is said to be of the Juglans family of wood indigenous to North America thus the wood being (walnut or butternut) wood. The tensioned rope on this drum is original to it and from the time period when made.
Note:The ten page conservation report from Winterthur Museums Curators will be included with the drum as well as the colored slides of the conservation with the report.The construction is too simple whereas within such populated areas the construction would be more complex. An example of just this type of drum can be found on pages 196 & 197 in the Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution by Neumann & Kravic. I am selling or auctioning this artifact from my personal collection. Ive had it for a while and now its time for someone else who will take good care of to preserve it for the generations to come.
