⭕ This is an American Watch Co. Size 20, Pocket Watch with a Hunting Watch Case by Robbins & Appleton in 18K gold.

Back Case Marks 1246X R&A 18

Cuvette Inscription: Presented to Pay Master Major Ladd By the Officers of 2d CVA March 1864. Back of Cuvette stamped 1246

The movement serial # 501XX

It looks to be fully jeweled

I believe The 2nd C.V.A. refers to the 2nd Regiment of Cavalry, Massachusetts Volunteers (The California 100 and the California Cavalry Battalion). Major Ladd was from Lowell Massachusetts. Unfortunately I dont know the story that led to Major Ladd receiving such a beautiful and expensive gift.

The watch shows less than normal wear for its 150 years of existence. I do not have the proper key to wind the watch but I have an iron one that fits with the cuvette lifted, that I will include.
