Dale Chihuly's Macchia Art Glass Bowl

⭕ This is a very fine and early example of Dale Chihulys Macchia Series. It is signed and dated 1983. The form measures 11.5 inches at its widest point and stands nearly 6.5 inches tall. It is a classic free formed shape with coral and brown-green reeds with polychrome spots or macchia chasing the exterior. The interior is a translucent ruby red capped by a bold yellow daisy rim.

1983 was a very important year in Chihulys career. It was during that year he sold is boathouse in Rhode Island and returned to the Pacific Northwest after a 16 years teaching residency on the East Coast. During the fall and winter months of 1983, Chihuly heavily expanded his work on the Macchia Series at the Pilchuck School in Stanwood, WA. Chihuly worked with a very small team during this time and he was still very physically active in the glass making process. It was also during these fall and winter months of 1983 that Chihuly began his long working relationship with William Morris as his gaffer. (William Morris himself has gone on to become one of the most highly regarded and internationally know contemporary glass artist of our time. His own works now rival Chihulys in beauty and price).
